City of Cape Town Learnership: Fire Fighter South Africa

As a component of the safety and security doctoral program, the City of Cape Town is presenting a Fire Fighter learnership opportunity. Upon the successful fulfillment of training and assessments, the candidate will secure a permanent position as a Learner Firefighter.

Fire Fighter Learnership In Nkangala

The Nkangala District Municipality presents a Fire Fighter Learnership opportunity at Kwamhlanga Fire Station. Whether you possess prior experience in firefighting or are an aspiring firefighter, you can participate in the recruitment process facilitated by the Nkangala District Municipality. Additionally, there are multiple openings in the region for both experienced and novice firefighters.

Salary Details:

  • Annual salary ranging from R104,568 to R117,107 per annum (inclusive of benefits such as contributions to Medical Aid, Pension Fund, Group Life, and Housing Allowance).
  • Monthly stipend of 4000 Rand.
Requirements for Fire Fighter Learnership:
  • Possession of a 12th-grade qualification (preferably with Mathematics and Physical Science).
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • No fear of confined spaces or heights.
  • Mandatory medical and physical fitness.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and handle stressful situations.
  • Clean criminal record.
  • Successful completion of Firefighter 1, Hazmat Awareness, Hazmat Operations, and First Aid Level 3 courses offered by the learning institution.
How to Apply for Fire Fighter Learnerships Program:

All eligible candidates must undergo and pass the following mandatory fitness test:

  • Reach test (1.9 m).
  • 2.4 km run (11 minutes for males, 13 minutes for females).
  • Push-ups (30 in 60 seconds).
  • Sit-ups (30 in 60 seconds).
  • Dead load transports (carrying 2 x 25 kg drums over a distance of 100 m).

Additional Notes:

  • Candidates must pass both a written exam and an interview.
  • Submission of fingerprints or identity numbers for criminal records check is mandatory, with no other criminal clearances accepted.
  • Undergo a City medical examination.
  • Mandatory drug test at a City testing location.

Special Requirements for the Position:

  • Non-permanent contract position for the duration of training.
  • Only candidates successfully completing prescribed training will be appointed to a permanent Learner Fire Fighter position.

  • Original National Senior Certificate (NSC: Schools) or National Certificate (NSC: FET Colleges) or National Certificate (Vocational).

  • Running shoes and workout gear.
