Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Scholarships Application Details:
The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Doctoral Scholarship Program aims to foster researchers who will emerge as engaged leaders, cognizant of current and future societal issues, and open to unconventional forms of knowledge. The Foundation is seeking candidates who are audacious, original, and forward-thinking.
The program spans three years and offers substantial support for the doctoral work of Fellows, including an allowance and a travel allowance.
Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Scholars receive:
- Membership in a dynamic community of Scholars, Mentors, and Fellows, all distinguished leaders in their respective disciplines and sectors.
- Leadership training provided by Mentors and Fellows, featuring unique experiential learning opportunities that enhance and complement academic experiences.
- Opportunities to enhance proficiency in Canada’s official languages (French and English) as well as Indigenous languages.
- Lifelong membership in the Foundation’s alumni network.
- Up to $40,000 annually for three years to cover tuition and reasonable living expenses, allowing focus on doctoral studies and participation in the Foundation’s leadership program.
- Up to $20,000 annually for three years for language learning, travel and accommodations related to the Foundation’s leadership program, and for research, networking, and travel associated with their doctoral research.

Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Scholarships Eligibility
To be eligible, candidates must be doctoral students who are either accepted into or in the first, second, or third year of a full-time program in the humanities or social sciences, with their research aligning with one of the Foundation’s four themes: Human Rights and Dignity, Responsible Citizenship, Canada and the World, and People and their Natural Environment.
Applicants must be Canadian citizens, whether enrolled at a Canadian or international institution. Additionally, up to 25% of Scholars in a given year may include non-Canadians (permanent residents or foreign nationals) who are pursuing a doctoral program at a Canadian institution.
