Call for Pan African University (PAU) Scholarship Applications for the 2024/2025 Academic Year

The Pan African University (PAU) Scholarship application details for the 2024/2025 academic year have been announced. Eligible and interested candidates are encouraged to submit their applications before the closing date.

Details of the Pan African University (PAU) Scholarship 2023/2024 and Application Process:

The African Union Commission invites applications for the Pan African University scholarships for the upcoming academic year. PAU is a distinguished network of universities in Africa committed to providing high-quality postgraduate education with the goal of fostering a prosperous, integrated, and peaceful continent.

PAU is offering scholarships to talented young Africans and members of the African diaspora seeking to pursue Master’s or PhD degrees at any of its four institutes. To be eligible for the PAU Scholarship, applicants should be motivated professionals, academics, industrialists, innovators, or entrepreneurs committed to leadership roles.

Degree Levels and Participating Institutes:
  1. Pan African University Institute for Basic Sciences, Technology and Innovation (PAUSTI), Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Kenya.
    • Masters Programs: Molecular Biology & Biotechnology, Mathematics (Statistics option), Mathematics (Data Science), Civil Engineering (Structural option), Civil Engineering (ASAL & Environment option), Electrical Engineering (Telecommunications option), Electrical Engineering (Computer Engineering option), Mechatronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering.
    • PhD Programs: Molecular Biology & Biotechnology, Mathematics (Computational option), Mathematics (Statistics option), Electrical Engineering (Telecommunications option), Electrical Engineering (Power Systems option), Civil Engineering (Structural option), Civil Engineering (ASAL and Environment option).
  2. Pan African University Institute for Life and Earth Sciences – including Health and Agriculture (PAULESI), University of Ibadan (UI), Nigeria.
    • Masters Programs: Geosciences (Mineral Exploration option), Geosciences (Petroleum Geosciences option), Health Sciences (Reproductive Health option), Plant Breeding, Environmental Management, Medicinal Plant Research and Drug Development, Sport Management and Policy Development, Avian Medicine, Veterinary Vaccine Production and Quality Control Option.
    • PhD Programs: Geosciences (Mineral Exploration option), Geosciences (Petroleum Geoscience option), Health Sciences (Reproductive Health option), Plant Breeding, Environmental Management.
  3. Pan African University Institute for Governance, Humanities and Social Sciences (PAUGHSS), University of Yaounde II and University of Buea, Cameroon.
    • Masters Programs: Governance and Regional Integration, Conference Interpreting, Translation, Transborder Languages and Intercultural Communication.
    • PhD Programs: Governance and Regional Integration.
  4. Pan African University Institute for Water and Energy Sciences – including Climate Change (PAUWES), University of Tlemcen, Algeria.
    • Masters Programs: Water (Engineering option), Water (Policy option), Energy (Engineering option), Energy (Policy option), Climate Change (Policy option), Climate Change Engineering option.

Application Deadline:

Applications received after this deadline will NOT be considered.

Field of Study: Listed programs are offered at each participating institute.

Candidate Requirements:

Master’s Applicants must:

  • Be under 30 years of age for males and 35 years for females.
  • Hold an Undergraduate degree from a recognized university, with at least a second-class upper division or its equivalent, in a relevant field.

PhD Applicants must:

  • Be under 35 years of age for males and 40 years for females.
  • Hold a Master’s degree in a relevant field from PAU or any internationally recognized university.

Scholarship awardees should commit to working in Africa after graduation.

All applicants must submit the following documents:

Requirements for Master’s Students:
  • Certified true copies of relevant certificates and transcripts (from university and high school).
  • Passport or National ID card (personal details page).
  • Clear, colored passport-size photograph (2cmx2cm).
  • Detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV).
  • Recommendation letter from ONE of their former university lecturers.
  • Names of 3 Reference University lecturers (with a mandatory email address and WhatsApp number).
  • Candidates may undergo a written/oral examination after pre-selection.
  • Candidates applying for the Master in Conference Interpreting and Translation programs must demonstrate excellent knowledge of at least one of the African Union’s official languages (Arabic, English, French, Portuguese, Kiswahili, and Spanish). Academic competence must be evident in academic transcripts at the bachelor’s level.

Requirements for PhD Students:

  • Certified copies of relevant certificates and transcripts.
  • Passport or National ID card (biometric/personal details page).
  • Clear, colored passport-size photograph (2cmx2cm).
  • Detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV).
  • Recommendation letters from 2 Professors.
  • A three to four-page Research Concept Note (tentative title, research questions, objectives, the significance of the research, etc.).
  • Names of 3 Reference University lecturers (with a mandatory email address and WhatsApp number).
