Details of Czech Republic.

The Government of the Czech Republic offers scholarships within the framework of its Foreign Development Assistance in support of the study of foreign nationals from developing countries listed below at public institutions of higher education in the Czech Republic.

Providing scholarships to individuals from the specified developing countries for enrollment in Czech public higher education institutions, commonly known as “universities,” constitutes a significant facet of the Czech Republic’s foreign development cooperation, marked by a longstanding tradition. Since the late 1950s, more than 20,000 foreign nationals have successfully concluded their academic pursuits at Czech universities, supported by scholarships from the Government of the Czech Republic.

Government scholarships for studies at universities in the Czech Republic are governed by a Resolution of the Government of the Czech Republic No. 77 as of 28th January 2019 as part of a joint foreign development cooperation program pursued by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Health.

General Information

The Czech Republic’s commitment to foreign development cooperation is underscored by the longstanding tradition of awarding scholarships to citizens from select developing countries for studies at Czech public higher education institutions, commonly referred to as “universities.” Since the late 1950s, over 20,000 foreign nationals have successfully completed their academic pursuits at Czech universities through the Government of the Czech Republic’s scholarship program.

These government scholarships, governed by Resolution No. 77 of the Czech Republic’s government dated January 28, 2019, are part of a collaborative foreign development cooperation program led by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (https://www.msmt.cz/) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (https://www.mzv.cz/), in partnership with the Ministry of Health (https://www.mzcr.cz/).

For the academic year 2022/2023, scholarships are exclusively offered to citizens of the following countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, and Zambia. The aim is to support the studies of foreign nationals from developing third countries. Citizens of the Czech Republic, the European Union, or any other foreign national with a permanent residence permit in the Czech Republic are not eligible to apply for these scholarships.

These Government Scholarships cater to the standard length of study in the following categories:

  1. Follow-up Master’s study programs, along with a one-year preparatory course in the Czech language (combined with other field-specific training). These scholarships are for graduates of Bachelor’s degree programs, and applicants can enroll only in study programs conducted in the Czech language. Depending on the subject area, entrance examinations at the respective university are generally required, with successful results being a prerequisite for scholarship awards.
  2. Follow-up Master’s study programs or Doctoral study programs. Scholarships in this category are for graduates of Bachelor or Master’s study programs, respectively, enrolling in study programs with instruction in the English language.

Application Submission and Deadline:

Applicants must complete an electronic application form by September 30, 2021, with successful applicants commencing their studies in the academic year 2022/2023.

Detailed information on scholarship terms and conditions is available in the “Guidelines for Granting Scholarships of the Government of the Czech Republic,” issued in both Czech and English.

Prospective applicants are strongly encouraged to carefully review the guidelines before applying.
