This scholarship opportunity is open to international students aspiring to pursue their Bachelor’s Degree in the USA. The program excludes universities in the UK, Germany, Sweden, Austria, Denmark, The Netherlands, Italy, Norway, and Ireland.
About Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarships
It’s aim is to support outstanding students from select developing countries, providing a limited number of scholarships each year for postgraduate studies. The scholarships are awarded on a 50% grant: 50% loan basis through a competitive application process held once a year in June or July. While Master’s level courses are prioritized, outstanding students recommended for doctoral studies by their professors may also be considered.
The scholarship covers various fields of study, including Health, Education, Culture, Rural development, Institution building, Economic development, Agriculture and food security. Civil society, Enterprise development, Financial inclusion, Habitat, Historic cities, Humanitarian assistance, Industrial development, Infrastructure development, Media, Music, and Tourism promotion.
The Aga Khan Foundation provides assistance with tuition fees and living expenses. For PhD programs, funding is provided for the first two years, after which students are expected to seek alternative sources. Financial aid is awarded based on the needs of the student. Also applicants are encouraged to explore additional funding sources to minimize reliance on the Foundation.
Loan conditions include considering half of the scholarship amount as a loan, subject to reimbursement with an annual service charge of 5%. A guarantor is required to co-sign the loan agreement, and the payback period is five years, beginning six months after the study period funded by the Aga Khan Foundation.
Eligibility criteria
It includes having consistently excellent academic records, demonstrating genuine financial need, securing admission to a highly reputable university or program of study, and showing the relevance of the field of study to AKDN’s focus areas. Applicants are also expected to have some years of work experience in their field of interest, and preference is given to those under 30 years of age.
