On-Campus Jobs: These positions are typically offered to international students in their first year of studies with an F1 visa. On-campus jobs are directly related to the university’s curriculum and may involve roles such as mailroom attendant, college teaching assistant, barista, student library assistant, and campus ambassador.
Off-Campus Jobs: Available to international students who have completed their first academic year, off-campus jobs provide opportunities for those facing economic hardship or seeking additional employment beyond campus. Examples include cashier, retail sales associate, bank teller, driver, and social media assistant.
Curricular Practical Training (CPT): CPT jobs offer short-term permits allowing students to gain real-world experience in their field of study at US institutions. Students can work full-time in CPT positions without being restricted by hourly limits. CPT opportunities include internships, summer internships, or co-ops, which can be paid or unpaid.
Optional Practical Training (OPT): OPT positions are directly related to students’ areas of study. Qualified students can work up to 20 hours per week for a maximum of 12 months. There are two types of OPT:
- Pre-completion OPT: Available to students who have completed one academic year but are still enrolled in their programs. They can work full-time during holidays and up to 20 hours per week during the school year.
